The Emerson Volunteer Fire Department is getting a new $980,000 facility that’s expected to open up this spring. Fire Chief Dick McCabe says funding is coming from a sales tax money. “It all started about two years ago. Dakota City put together a sales tax money, and it was voted on county wide by the taxpayers. And that is how we are going to fund the building. And the building is probably about just under a million dollars.”
McCabe says the Fire Department expects to move into the new facility in the next month or two.
He adds the new building will give them more space. “It’s another 2,000 square foot bigger. And it will be five bays, and our old facility had three bays. So it will help us on the room.”
The new facility is expected to allow for enough space for fire equipment.
McCabe says the building will also have a few new features, including a training room. “Yes it does have a nice kitchen facility and training room. The training room is going to be bigger and more accessible for us. And it will be a nice facility when it’s done.”
McCabe says part of the old facility had to be torn down to build the new one, which will be located just north of the current building.
