RRN/ Platte River Chapter of Pheasants Forever hosts annual banquet this Saturday evening, October 1st.

The Platte River Chapter of Pheasants Forever will hold their 20th annual fundraising banquet this Saturday October 1st at the Holiday Inn Express. Chapter President Norm Naylor says tickets can be purchased at the door. The doors will open at 5:30pm, a prime rib dinner by Paradise Catering of Kearney will be served at 7:00pm followed by the live auction.

Naylor says the proceeds are used in a variety of ways including two lifetime hunting and fishing permits for youth members known as Ringnecks. A Youth-Mentor Hunt is held annually in the Spring with Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Each youth is sent home with a Pheasants Forever hunting vest. Naylor says “it’s pretty exciting to get these young folks involved on Pheasants Forever.” The Platte River Chapter has also been involved in two pollinator projects in the County. One is located near Sandoz Elementary School in Lexington. The other is at Cozad Wildlife Management Area in conjunction with a bequest from the Ron Schmeeckle family. The Chapter also has a no-till grass drill available for rent to landowners.

The evening will include various raffles and auctions for such items as wildlife prints and guns. One of the raffles is for a 45-quart YETI cooler. Those bringing a bottle of wine can receive and additional 3 raffle tickets. Those bringing a Nebraska wine will get an additional 5 raffle tickets. The winner of the cooler will also receive all of the wines. Naylor says you don’t have to be a hunter to attend. He describes the Pheasants Forever projects as something he finds “very worthwhile.”
