The 39th Annual Wayne Chicken Show “Chickens Around the World” is set for July 12th through the 14th in Wayne. Abby Schademann, Marketing, Events, and Tourism Coordinator for Wayne Area Economic Development, says things kickoff the morning of Friday the 12th with some downtown events.
Schademann says also on Friday will be a Pie and Ice Cream Social, Kids Games and Inflatables, and the World’s Largest Chicken Dance at 2nd and Main led by Wayne State College and Wayne High Cheerleaders.
At 6:30 will be the National Anthem and then Entertainment by Wayne Dance Company and Twin Rivers Taekwondo.
At 7:00 there will be a Cement Chicken Auction, and after that there will be the Saucy Hot Wing Eating Contest sponsored by Pizza Hut.
After that, Many Moccasins Dance Troupe will perform, and there will be fireworks and a teen dance following.
Schademann says Saturday activities include a parade, live music, and numerous contests.
Schademann says there will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place for the Chicken Cook Off, which cooks are being sought for.
Sons of Satan will be playing at the City Auditorium that night.
On Sunday, things wrap up with a Car Show from 9:00-1:00 p.m. and Poker Run from 1:00-6:00 p.m.
The Wayne Chicken Show has been held every year since 1980. Schademann explains how things came about almost 40 years ago.
Schademann says the Softball Tournament is not being held this year, but they will try again next year.
