A report of a possible pipe bomb near the mini park at the Broadway/ South Beltline intersection kept Scottsbluff Police busy this morning.

Shortly before 8 a.m., police were alerted by employees from the Scottsbluff Parks Department about the suspicious device next to the Monument Pathway.

The Scottsbluff Explosive Ordinance team was summoned, and worked on assessing the situation. The device was breached- and was found to be a geocache tube. Geocaching is an activity where people use GPS to hide containers and objects so other participants can find the hidden item.

Traffic on Broadway was shut down for a short time, and pedestrians were diverted from the area as well.
