The Dawson County 4‑H Public Speaking Contest will be Monday, March 19, at the Dawson County Extension Office, fairgrounds. All 4‑H’ers, ages 8‑18, may participate, said Andrea Nisley, UNL Extension Educator. More information is available from 4‑H leaders or the Dawson County Extension Office.
The 4‑H Public Speaking Contest will be divided into four divisions: Junior Speech Division, 8 ‑10 years old; Intermediate Speech Division, 11‑13 years old; Senior Speech Division, 14-18 years old; and Radio Public Service Announcement (PSA), 8-18 years as of Jan. 1, 2018.
The Dawson County 4-H Public Speaking Contest entries are due February 23 in the Dawson County Extension Office. PSA CDs or flash drives and scripts are due in the Dawson County Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. March 8.
Special premiums again will be given this year, courtesy of Radio Station KRVN, Lexington. The high ranking speaker in each of the three speech sections will receive a radio, with a cash award for top two PSA’s. Ribbons will be awarded to all speakers.
The high three individuals in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Speech divisions and PSA’s also will earn the right to represent Dawson County in the regional contest.
The top Senior speech individuals and Senior PSA individuals in the Regional Contest will compete in the State Contest. Scholarships are awarded by the Nebraska Rural Radio Association at the State level.
The public may come and listen to a wide variety of excellent speeches presented by Dawson County 4‑H members, Nisley said.
