Kearney Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christopher Loofe as principal for Kearney High School.  Dr. Loofe will begin his new position August 1, 2018.   “I am excited for the opportunity to serve the Kearney Public Schools and the community,” said Dr. Loofe. “KPS’ history of excellence in the classroom, your beautiful new facilities, the overall success of your activities and athletic programs, and the support from the stakeholders is what drew our family to Kearney.”

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Christopher Loofe to the Kearney Public Schools,” said Dr. Kent Edwards, Superintendent.  “There were many qualified candidates for this position, but Dr. Loofe’s experience and extensive knowledge and experience in developing premier educational programs made him the perfect candidate to fulfill this role and easily move forward with our Strategic Plan.   Dr. Loofe has a natural ability to develop relationships with staff, students, and families, and will provide a smooth transition.”

Dr. Loofe has a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration from UNO, a 7-12 Endorsement in Administration from Wayne State College, an M.S. degree in Special Education from UNO, B.S. degree in Elementary Education from UNO, and a B.S. degree in Sports Management & Business Administration from Wayne State College.  He is a member of the Nebraska Association of Secondary School Principals, Nebraska State Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

“My initial priorities include getting to know and listen to the faculty and current leadership team, so I can begin to learn the history and culture of Kearney High School,” said Dr. Loofe.   “I also need to spend time with the central office leadership team to learn the KPS policies and procedures, as well as begin to foster meaningful relationships with our community leaders and current stakeholders.”

Dr. Loofe has a wife, Kim, who is also in education and has served as a special education teacher and reading specialist for 18 years.  They have 19-year-old twin daughters, Lauren and Madeline, who are currently completing their first year of college at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, and the University of Nebraska-Omaha, respectively.  They also have an 11-year-old son Charles, who will be in the 6th grade next fall.

Dr. Loofe will be replacing Dr. Jay Dostal who took a high school principal position at Fayetteville High School in Arkansas.
