A fire on Interstate 80 late Sunday afternoon caused a stretch of eastbound lanes in Dawson County to be closed for several hours. According to the Nebraska State Patrol a semi with a trailer hauling vehicles was reported on fire around 4:06 pm in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 241 or about 4 miles east of Lexington. The semi was able to be detached from the trailer but, the amount of damage to the trailers and vehicles on it was not immediately available. Four vehicles on the trailer were damaged in the flames. The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. Sgt. Kyle Diefenbaugh says eastbound traffic was diverted as far back as the Cozad exit to prevent secondary accidents from a large backup. Eastbound lanes were reopened around 9:00pm.
