Good news coming out of Eastern Wyoming College this month- as the fall semester is in full swing, and student enrollment numbers are up.
Following their 10 day enrollment numbers, the college is seeing a 4.6% increase from their fall 2015 enrollment.
Vice President for Academic Services Michelle Landa says those numbers only reflect students who are currently seeking degrees. However she says not included in those numbers are high school students who are earning college credits through the Torrington campus.
President Dr. Richard Patterson says one reason enrollment could possibly be up is the current state of Wyoming’s economy. With job losses across the energy industry and layoffs in Torrington, he believes some people are continuing their education to land that next job.
Landa also attributes excellent work from the college’s recruiters going to schools and hosting college visits throughout the year to get students to commit to EWC.
Programs seeing significant increases in enrollment are the college’s new Nursing Program as well as their Cosmetology Program.
