The Scottsbluff Winter Farmers’ Market will host its first market Saturday, Oct. 15, at a new location, the Village Garden Center.

The market has been housed at Aulick’s TLC for the past few winters, but after Aulick’s announced in early August it was closing the farmers market went looking for a new home.

“I just knew from the vendors, they had planted more crops for the winter’s market because it has really grown and it gave me the desire to find a place and open it up to the community,” said Jana Richard, manager of the Scottsbluff Winter Farmers’ Market.

Richard had to find a place that would allow for the parking needs of the market and be affordable.

The market found a new home at the Village Garden Center.

The garden center, owned by Dick Meyer seemed like it would be a good fit. Fortunately, Richard said, Meyer worked with them to make it affordable.

The first market will be held Saturday and Richard has been busy getting everything ready to open at the new location.

“We’ve been trying to get the word out that we have moved, and the word must be getting out, because I have some people (vendors) on a waiting list to come in,” she said.

The market will have all the favorite vendors from past seasons including Painter Produce, Heirloom Recipes, Chuckwagon Pizza and Jaykee’s Grillin’, Pampered Chef, Alice’s Soap, Bee Haven Market, Spotted Tail, Cakes in a Jar, E-Bee Honey, and more.

The market will also have a non-profit charity each week. This week money will be raised for breast cancer awareness.

The Scottsbluff Winter Farmers’ Market will be held the first and third Saturdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the former Village Garden Center, 1400 E. 20th Street, behind Backarack’s.
