Ogallala, Neb. — A fatal vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 80 east of Ogallala on Saturday evening.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, shortly after 4 p.m. Mountain Time, an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe left the lanes of traffic when the driver had a medical emergency.
The Tahoe entered the interstate median and passengers attempted to control the vehicle, but were not able to. The vehicle re-entered the eastbound lanes of traffic and drove into a culvert in the south ditch. Four of seven people in the Tahoe were ejected.
One person died later at an Ogallala hospital. The Nebraska State Patrol says the victim of the crash was identified as 11 year old Karen Valverde of Longmont, Colorado.
A male juvenile was life-flighted to Denver Children’s Hospital in Aurora with undetermined injuries. No restraints were in use in the vehicle.
