Freshman falsely reports Hastings high appeared on “hit-list”

HASTINGS – A 14-year-old girl was issued a citation for false reporting that Hastings High School was on a “hit-list”.

The Hastings Police Department started the investigation Sept. 7 after rumors began circulating through social media and word of mouth that a threat had been made on the high school.

The freshman girl told school administration she had visually seen the alleged hit-list on a cell phone. The school and police diligently looked into her information.

It was found Tuesday that the freshman student had fabricated the information and there was no list on any electronic device. The student was issued a citation for false reporting.

Hastings police said there has never been a threat or hit-list discovered.
