“Indie Lens Pop-Up” series at the Midwest Theater has received a grant in the amount of $1,800.00 from Humanities Nebraska. This program is one of many funded by Humanities Nebraska. HN awards more than $200,000 in grants each year.
The Midwest Theater is in its eight year of presenting the “Indie Lens Pop-Up”, formally known as “Community Cinema”, the groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative featuring free monthly screenings of films from the Emmy Award-winning series Independent Lens. The monthly documentaries are Free and include a facilitator, lead discussions and film guides. The project includes five Independent Lens Films (Oct 2016 – May 2017). “Indie Lens Pop-Up” creates a warm, welcoming and enjoyable space for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in a time where these opportunities seem to be dwindling. We learn and grow together as a community through the conversations that follow each film. The Midwest Theater has a powerful line up of local speakers and performers to accompany the upcoming season of screenings and discussions. Coffee and cookies are served after each film.
