LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Nebraska’s top elections official says voter registration totals have exceeded his expectations.
Secretary of State John Gale said Tuesday that nearly 1.2 million residents have registered to vote in Nebraska. Gale says he had hoped to see 1,185,000 registered voters, but the total so far has reached 1,198,546.
Nebraska counties are seeing a lot of early voting. Sarpy County Election Commissioner Wayne Bena says more than 21,000 voters in his county have requested an early ballot, and the upcoming election could break all previous records. Lancaster County Election Commissioner Dave Shively reported mailing 22,000 ballots from his office by Monday. Nearly 900 people in his county have appeared in person to vote early. Voter registrations online and by mail will end at the close of business on Friday.
