Monday evening the Gering city council made it official, they and the members of the community support the efforts of their Police Department.
Mayor Tony Kaufman read into the record a proclamation that states despite the lack of police support in other cities around the country, the community of Gering is behind their law enforcement officers.
Chief George Holthus and many of his officers were present for the reading of the proclamation, which the Chief said meant a lot to his officers.
Holthus told KNEB News, “It reassures the officers they do have the support of the elected officials and the community. Without that this difficult career becomes impossible. ”
Holthus noted as part of the new budget one of his officers will be taking over the animal control and code enforcement responsibilities. He will hire another person to take the officer’s empty position.
