Gering City Administrator Lane Danielzuk says there are plans for the groundbreaking on the proposed downtown Gering hotel to take place before the end of the year, possibly as early as next month.
Danielzuk told KNEB News Thursday that Brimark Builders, who develop the Cobblestone hotel sites, and an equity group that includes some local investors, have completed the financial part of the project. The hotel is scheduled to be built on the former McKee property at 10th and M Street owned by the city of Gering.
Danielzuk says expectations are for the three story, 54 room hotel to be constructed and completed in 2017. There will be approximately 60 parking spaces on site to accommodate hotel guests.
Earlier this year the former Prairie Pine Quilt Shop, two homes and an old Laundromat building were demolished on the construction site and the two businesses were relocated in preparation for the hotel project being built.
