Gering Junior High Monday morning hosted their annual program for local veterans who are related to junior high students.

The all school assembly included patriotic songs by the Junior High choir and the presenting of the American flag and a flag retirement ceremony by Junior High Boy Scouts. But the highlight was the introduction of veterans related to Gering Junior High students, who presented their relative with a gift to mark the occasion.

Physical Education teacher Brenda Pszanka says the students enjoy the program, which provides a connection to somebody they may have known through a friend but did not know he or she served in the military.

Congressman Adrian Smith spoke and participated in the presentation of veterans, who formed a line at the end of the assembly and shook hands with all the students.
