The Gering Library Board Tuesday voted to have their contracted consultants explore locating a new library on property that is also being considered for a townhouse development.

The property, owned by local realtor Cinda Munoz, is on 3.6 acres south of Dome Rock Manor north of K street between 12th and 13th Streets. The Gering council Monday approved a zoning change to allow for the possible construction of townhomes on the site.

But Library Board Chair Suzanne Myers says it may also be a good spot for a library. because there is enough space for the library and landscaping around it.  Myers says it also has the needed infrastructure and and  there are no buildings  that need to be removed. Myers says the location is also close to a lot of traffic from recreation, commerce, and restaurants.

Myers says Dennis Humphries with Humphries-Poli Architects from Denver and Megan Hayward with Hewgley and Associates will explore the feasibility of the property and hopefully report back by fall.

Myers says Munoz was present Tuesday night and welcomes the Library Board’s interest in the land.
