Ground was broken Monday afternoon on the new Pender Medical Clinic. Clinic Manager Lori Minert says the new clinic will be convenient for patients.
“Well from the patients’ perspective we bring a lot of things in being all on one campus. So if we have a patient that comes to the clinic and needs to be admitted they don’t have to go back out get in their car, be loaded up, come up here, unload, and do that. We can just take them down the connecting walkway and start that process immediately.”
Minert says it will also be convenient for providers.
The new clinic will be larger than the present clinic.
“We currently are in a clinic that has about 12,000 square feet. And we are looking to build a new clinic connected to the hospital that will have approximately 20,000 square feet on the top floor and about half of that on a basement.” Minert said.
Minert says there will be seven cubicle areas that will have a provider office, three patient exam rooms, and a nurses’ station.
She adds X-Ray and Lab services will expand and be centrally located in the center of the building.
The $8 million project is being funded by money set aside by the clinic and bond sales, according to Minert.
The goal is to be in the new clinic by December 2017.
