Keep Scottsbluff/Gering Beautiful and Panhandle Coop are teaming up to host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day tomorrow (Sat) only, from 9 a.m. until noon.

The collection will be in the north parking lot at Panhandle Coop Plaza north parking lot.

The collection will accept yard fertilizer, chemicals, pesticides & pool chemicals, under the sink cleaning supplies & chemicals, paint, varnishes and stains, used oil & antifreeze, liquid mercury, thermometers, relays & switches, fluorescent light bulbs & auto batteries. They will also accept household batteries, but terminals MUST be taped.

Keep Scottsbluff/Gering Beautiful Executive Director Cassidy Baum says they will collect a wide variety of items, but stresses this is for residential hazardous waste items only.

Baum says there are some items that will not be accepted though, including tires, pharmaceuticals, electronics, appliances or construction waste. No early drop-offs will be accepted.

Panhandle Coop Marketing Director Susan Wiedeman says the collection will be taking place on the north side of the Panhandle Coop Plaza. She says you will need to enter from the east side of the parking lot off Avenue B and will then be directed from the east side to the west side. Wiedeman said if people attempt to enter from the west side by Mr. Tire and try cutting in line, they won’t be able to do that.

Funding for the collection is provided through the Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grant Program through the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
