Kearney Police make arrest in felony assault case

Kearney, Neb. — Officers of the Kearney Police Department were dispatched to Good Samaritan Hospital early Saturday morning in response to an eighteen year old female that had suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The investigation revealed that she had received a gunshot wound while she was driving a car near 25th Street and 5th Avenue, in Kearney, and that the shot came from inside the car from one of her passengers. At this time it is being investigated as a reckless act. 18 year old Deven Ward was arrested Tuesday for 2nd degree assault (class IIA felony), use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony (class II felony), and possessing or receiving a stolen firearm (class IIA felony). The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital.
