Kuckkahn comfortable in new Interim City Manager position

Interim Alliance City Manager Rick Kuckkahn has been in the position for nearly a month now, and he says the council and staff have welcomed him and made him feel comfortable in his new position.

The former Scottsbluff City manager replaced J.D. Cox around Labor Day and he says one of the different aspects of being city manager in Alliance is that the city operates  the airport, a bus service and an electric utility, unlike Scottsbluff.

Kuckkahn says another issue for the city is  removing utilities from right of way as the Nebraska Department of Roads widens Highway 385 south of Alliance. Kuckkahn says electric poles and lines and water utilities are being removed from the area.  Kuckkahn says it will cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars but the economic benefits Alliance should see from widening the highway will be worth it.

Kuckkahn says he doesn’t expect to make any sweeping changes as the interim city manager. But he notes the council wants him to make sure services continue to be provided in an efficient way so the new permanent city manager can hit the ground running.
