June 12, 2016, marked the one‐year re‐opening of the Majestic Theatre in Lexington, Nebraska. Lexington Middle
School students started this project in 2009 with the desire to reinvigorate downtown Lexington. Since reopening in the
year of the Majestic’s 100th year anniversary, the theatre has shown more than 60 films and sold over 18,000 tickets
and 7,000 buckets of popcorn. The theatre has also hosted several community events including a film screening for the
Dawson County Historical Society Museum, a holiday movie sponsored by the Council of Economic Development and a
canned food drive organized by elementary students.
Volunteers have played a critical role in the success of the Majestic. In the past 15 months, the theatre has had over
1,200 individuals and 21 businesses or organizations volunteer during movie nights by taking tickets and serving
concessions. Without the support of the community and volunteers, the Majestic would not be able to offer the
reasonable ticket and concession prices.
The Majestic Theatre will hold an awards ceremony to recognize 2015‐2016 volunteers at 3:00 pm on Sunday,
September 18th prior to the showing of the movie Pete’s Dragon. Volunteers to be recognized at the awards ceremony
