Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says that a Greely, Colorado man has been charged after detonating a bomb and having materials to make explosive devices.

51-year-old Edgar Almond is charged with Possession of a Destructive Device and 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of Explosive Materials.

Court document say that on Wednesday morning, Sidney Police received a call from Almond’s ex-wife. She stated that he was acting crazy and had bomb making materials in his van in front of the house.

The woman also said that on Tuesday night he had detonated a bomb on the cliffs near East Drive, and “is not above ‘suicide by cop’.” Neighbors confirmed that they heard a loud bang Tuesday night, but didn’t know where the sound came from.

A Special Agent from the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad Police was called to inspect the van with his K-9, and noticed a substitute gun powder in the vehicle, fuses, and pieces of pipe bombs that were being made- but not complete. Authorities also found located bomb fragment that were previous detonated.

Almond was advised of his Miranda Rights and was taken into custody. He also had a felony convictions for Arson and Assault in Texas and Colorado.
