A 19-year-old Mitchell man who was convicted on three charges arising from an altercation with a former lover that began at the Jax Coffee drive-through was sentenced Thursday to a year in jail.

District Judge Leo Dobrovolny told Andrew Hazen that his behavior was “clearly way over the line” and that he had disobeyed the number one requirement of his probation and that was not to break any laws.

Court documents say Hazen walked up to the car where the victim and her 8-month-old child were in line, grabbed a slushee, and threw it the victim’s face. The victim then drove off and Hazen began following her in his vehicle.

He then reportedly swerved his car in front of hers and hit the front bumper. Both vehicles stopped, and Hazen then started pounding on the windows and started screaming.

Hazen was sentenced by Judge Dobrovolny to 300 days in jail for a felony domestic assault conviction and a total of 60 days in jail for willful reckless driving and criminal mischief. He was given credit for 135 days served in jail.
