Thanksgiving in the Valley has always drawn a large crowd, and Thursday’s 35th anniversary event in Scottsbluff was no exception.
347 meals were served to those who stopped in at the Guadalupe Center over two hours during the midday, with another 410 delivered by 22 volunteer drivers who dropped off meals from Lyman to Bayard . With another 30 meals carried out, the total number served reached 787. Organizer Kendra Feather says that figure was in line with the number of meals served in recent years.
Originally envisioned as a way to bring residents together for a community meal, former KNEB News Director Kevin Mooney says it has evolved into so much more. “There is so much need in the community, even more than you can see here. Over the years, one thing it has really taught you is humility.”
