NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in February.
BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/19S & CRN #70235) will be held Saturday, February 9, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.
This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.
Cost of this class, with Ethan Larson the instructor, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.
BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/19S & CRN #70106) will be held Wednesday, February 13, from 6-10 p.m. in Room 101 of the Arlo Worth Building.
Designed for a wide variety of healthcare professionals, this course is designed to refresh skills related to recognizing several life-threatening emergencies, providing CPR, using an AED and relieving choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their current certification card to the class.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will hold a continuing education course for Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) next month.
Manual Therapy for the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTAS 5110/19S & CRN #70111) will meet Saturday, February 9, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Room 223 of the Ag/Allied Health Building on the Norfolk campus.
This one-day course will focus on peripheral joint mobilizations with an emphasis on safely and effectively performing manual therapy techniques. The course is designs for PTAs who are interested in expanding their manual therapy skills. Legal and ethical issues regarding PTAs performing manual therapy will also be discussed. The course will include lecture, laboratory and case studies to meet course learning outcomes, and is worth 7.5 Approved CEUs by the Continuing Education Committee of the Nebraska Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association.
The course is taught by Dr. Justin Berry, who has been teaching physical therapy continuing education workshops since 2005 and was the 2014 recipient of the FA Davis Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Educator Award.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a series of Microsoft Excel classes beginning soon.
Microsoft Excel – Level 1 (INFO 5115/19S & CRN #70066) will meet Tuesday, February 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.
In this class, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel as they analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease as well as use functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.
Microsoft Excel – Level 2 (INFO 5315/19S & CRN #70067) will meet Tuesday, February 26, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the same location.
This class is for users who have been exposed to Excel and the commands. The material covered includes creating tables and graphs; working with large worksheets; adding graphics to worksheets; moving and sizing images; using smart art; using and managing multiple worksheets; named ranges, and using outlining tools and pivot tables.
Microsoft Excel – Level 3 (INFO 5515/19S & CRN #70068) will meet Tuesday, March 5, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the same location.
This course is designed for the advanced Microsoft Excel user who is seeking additional knowledge. Topics covered include pivot tables, macros and advanced formulas. Participants will learn to customize reporting to meet their business needs. Advanced formulas will focus in the areas of financial functions that will benefit all Excel users.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a class on small-scale meal preparation, beginning soon.
Meal Prep for One or Two (HOEC 5175/19S & CRN #70326) meets on Wednesday, February 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.
Cooking for just one or two people can be a challenge, and this class will introduce learners to planning and preparing meals on a smaller scale. They will discover the “Power Hour” technique in which meal prep is completed in an hour or less. They will also learn how to downsize full recipes, how to freeze meals and how to use mason jars as an important tool for preparing salads. Several take-home recipes, including single-serving recipes, will be provided.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class next month to help familiarize iPad users with their devices.
IPad Basics and Beyond (INFO 5160/19S & CRN #70064) will be held Wednesday, February 13, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the Northeast Community College extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Ave. in West Point. Class meets in Room 212.
In this course, participants will learn how to use an iPad for emailing, browsing the web, managing time, getting directions, taking notes, taking photos and listening to music. They will also learn about free applications that can be downloaded to the device. Participants are asked to bring their iPad, user ID and password to class.
