NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a class on decluttering later this month.

Declutter Your Life and Organize Your Home (HOEC 5190/18F & CRN #60359) meets on Tuesday, September 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

In this class, participants will learn how to declutter their life and organize their home. Clutter can lead to anxiety, and anxiety can lead to depression, which in turn can create more clutter. This class will show participants how to break the vicious cycle, downsize and organize as they learn easy step to make their lives and homes more peaceful.

NORFOLK – A course at Northeast Community College will welcome the fall holidays with a wood pallet decoration class.

Reversible Pallet Craft – Halloween & Thanksgiving (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #60360) will be held Wednesday, September 26, from 6-9 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

Participants will make a simple and attractive fall-theme decoration out of a wood pallet. On one side, they will paint a pumpkin or monster for Halloween, and on the reverse, they will paint a pilgrim or turkey. Each pallet craft will be assembled and ready to paint at the start of class.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer two courses on DSLR photography, beginning soon.

Digital Photography – Shooting in Manual ARTS 5105/18F & CRN #60361) will be held Thursday, September 27, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) in Norfolk.

In this course, participants will learn to operate their DSLR cameras like a professional and move off auto mode. This class will assist beginners with the basic terminology and processes involved in manual mode. They will learn how to control shutter speed and f-stop and learn to control color, flash and other advanced settings.

Participants are asked to bring their own DSLR cameras.

Digital Photography – Take a Good Photo (ARTS 5305/18F & CRN #60365) will be Thursday, October 11, at the same time and in the same location.

This interactive class will teach participants how to take a good photo using manual mode in all settings, including nature. Taking a perfect photograph with a DSLR camera isn’t always easy, but this class will help participants understand settings, the use of light, composition and posing.

Participants are asked to bring their own DSLR cameras.

Cost of each course, with Elley Coffin the instructor, is $45.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class next month on voice-activated personal assistant technology.

Voice Activated Personal Assistant Technology (INFO 5295/18F & CRN #60192) will meet Monday, October 1, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

Personal assistant technology can perform a variety of simple tasks, such as playing music, but it can also be used to control smart-home gadgets, which enable it to dim lights, lock doors or adjust thermostats. This class is ideal for anyone considering buying a voice-activated personal assistant or wanting to learn more about the one they already own.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two Microsoft Excel classes beginning soon.

Microsoft Excel – Level I (INFO 5115/18F & CRN #60193) will meet Tuesday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel as they analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease as well as use functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.

Microsoft Excel – Level II (INFO 5315/18F & CRN #60195) will meet Tuesday, October 9, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the same location.

This class is for users who have been exposed to Excel and the commands. The material covered includes creating tables and graphs; working with large worksheets; adding graphics to worksheets; moving and sizing images; using smart art; using and managing multiple worksheets; named ranges, and using outlining tools and pivot tables.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce students to a fun way to keep fit.

Zumba! (HPER 5115/18F & CRN #60160) meets Tuesdays, October 2-23, from 5:45-6:30 p.m., in Room 126 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

A combination of Latin dance and other forms of dance fitness, Zumba is easy to learn and always a blast. Join Instructor Jenny Durant as she covers easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Each class includes a 15-minute cool-down.

NORFOLK – An upcoming class at Northeast Community College will offer students an introductory course on Microsoft Word, beginning soon.

Microsoft Word 2016 – Level I (INFO 5120/18F & CRN #60362), meets two consecutive Tuesdays, October 2 and 9, from 6-9 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast Community College campus.

In this course, participants will learn the essentials of Microsoft Word and word processing. They will create, navigate and save documents; apply character and paragraph formatting; insert symbols; and create headers and footers. They will also learn how to check spelling and grammar; add page breaks; work with document views; and learn how to print and convert documents to PDF.

Cost of the class, with Stacy Anderson the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will a course on identity theft next month.

Identity Theft – Protection & Recovery (HPER 5123/18F & CRN #60363) meets two consecutive Tuesdays, October 2 and 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

In this course, participants will learn about how identity theft works, how to guard against it and how to recover once it has been stolen. They will learn basic protocol for freezing their credit, social media traps and pitfalls, spam emails and more. The second half of the class will be devoted to identity recovery and re-establishing identity in case it gets stolen.

Instructor Julie Clark has been trained in white collar crime and has 15 years of experience investigating crime on a regional and national level.

Cost of the class is $40.

WEST POINT – Gamers young and old will have an opportunity to learn basic programming skills in a new class being offered next month at Northeast Community College in West Point.

Computer and Game Programming (INFO 5101/18F & CRN #60307) will meet Wednesday, October 3, from 5-8 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of programming and computational thinking; instill confidence in working with technology, and demonstrate how to create basic apps and games. Participants will learn how to create their very own games by the end of class.

The class is suitable for participants aged 8 and older. Cost of the course, with TJ Daberkow the instructor, is $30.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a course in human resources certification preparation beginning next month.

HR Certification Preparation (BSAD5310/17F & CRN #60185) will be held Wednesdays, October 3-November 7, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

This class will provide instruction in the current Human Resource Management Body of Knowledge as identified by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Participants will engage in discussion and complete questions representative of those likely to be on the HRCI Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exam or the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) exams.

This course will be offered via distance learning technology from South Sioux City and is designed to prepare for the certification exam; the actual exam is not conducted in the class. NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer an two courses on QuickBooks 2018, beginning soon.

QuickBooks 2018 Level 1 (ACCT 5100/18F & CRN #60380) will be held two consecutive Wednesdays, October 3 and 10, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast campus.

The course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and paying bills as well as create and edit a chart of accounts for their companies, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

QuickBooks 2018 Level 2 (ACCT 5300/18F & CRN #60383) will meet two consecutive Wednesdays, November 7 and 14, at the same time and location.

This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will create capital assets and loan accounts and also discuss dealing with bad debt.

NORFOLK – A fluid painting class for kids ages 9-13 is coming to Northeast Community College in October.

Fluid Painting (Ages 9-13) (ARTS 5163/18F & CRN #60381) will meet Thursday, October 4, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this class, students will learn about color theory and the color wheel as they create three fluid painting masterpieces on canvas. By mixing colors in a cup, participants will discover beautiful colors to create their paintings.

Supplies will be provided and are included in the cost of the course. Cost of the class, with Elley Coffin the instructor, is $35.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class on Adobe Lightroom, beginning soon.

Adobe Lightroom (ARTS 5190/18F & CRN #60194) will be held two consecutive Thursdays, October 4 and 11, from 6-9 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this introductory course, participants will learn how to take images out of their camera and edit them. They will explore how Lightroom presets work, how to edit their own images and how to add them to Lightroom. Participants will need to bring their own cameras to class along with a memory card with 10 of their own images on it.

Cost of the course, with Erin Beutler the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK -Northeast Community College will offer an additional course option next month for those interested in learning the basics of motorcycle riding.

Motorcycle Rider Course (TRAN 5105/18F & CRN #60014/60015) will be offered Friday through Sunday, October 5-7. Hours on Friday will be 6:30-10 p.m.; Saturday, 7:50 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday 7:50 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Classes will be held in Room 103 in the Northeast Community College Utility Line building, just east of the main campus on Benjamin Avenue.

The class includes five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of riding instruction. It begins with the basics, such as turning, shifting, and braking. Then it moves on to more advance street riding strategies. Professionally trained instructors teach in the classroom and then coach riders in a controlled riding area.

Within 30 days of the completing the course, students are required to take the MSF Basic eCourse. Details regarding this course will be sent to students after they register for the Motorcycle Rider Course. There is no additional cost for the mandatory eCourse.

Cost of the course, with Michael Holcomb, Taylor Holcomb, Roger Nelson, Keith Neal and Jacob Korinek the instructors, is $250.
