Northeast to offer classes at West Point, Norfolk, and South Sioux City Campuses in mid-to-late September

Northeast is offering classes at its campuses in West Point, Norfolk, and South Sioux City in the middle to late part of September. Class information can be found below:

 

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a beginner-level course on Microsoft Excel during the month of September.

Microsoft Excel – Level 1 (INFO 5115/18F & CRN #60163) will be held three consecutive Wednesdays, September 12-26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 135 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

Participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel to analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease and use simple functions to evaluate and organize their data effectively.

Cost of each class, with Michele McCreary the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer another Heart Code – BLS for Healthcare Provider Online & Skills Session course, beginning soon.

The first portion of this course (HLTH 5300/18F & CRN #60077) is web-based and is available on-line
24 hours a day. The skills session meets Saturday, September 15, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., in Room 101 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

The Basic Life Support course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking. This course is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified AHA Instructor. When online Part 1 is completed, students will register for the Skills Sessions. Participants are to bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

Online key codes for Part 1 are available at the Hawks Shop in the Student Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Participants need to bring their AHA Part 1 Health Care Provider Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Cost of the class, with Brock Soderberg the instructor, is $40.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code – Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.

Three testing sessions – Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/18F & CRN #60104); Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/18F & CRN #60116); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/18F & CRN #60093) will be held Saturday, September 15, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) – teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid – teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.

The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification. This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. Online key codes for Part 1 (online course) are available at the Hawks Shop in the Norfolk campus Student Center, (402)-844-7140. Students will need to bring their AHA Online Course Completion Certificate (within 60 days) to be admitted to the Skills Testing Session. No textbook is required for this class.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a CPR Instructor Course beginning soon.

The course (HLTH 1720/18F & CRN #15433) will meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, September 17-21, from 6-10 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Northeast campus.

CPR instructor training for those currently qualified in basic life support. This course includes background materials, teaching techniques and aids to enable individuals to instruct others in the knowledge of local emergency care systems, understanding risk factors, signals and actions for survival, and recognition of indications for life support and accurate performance of the same.

Class participants must have a current AHA BLS CPR card. The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop, which is located in the Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Trever O’Brien the instructor, is $116.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce learners to conversational Spanish.

Beginning Conversational Spanish (SPAN 5100/18F & CRN #60165) meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 18-27, from 5:30-7 p.m., in Room 132 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

This beginner-level course is specially designed for those who have not had any previous exposure to the Spanish language. It is designed to help the learner develop basic vocabulary and effective pronunciation skills. Ideal for business or personal development, the course focuses on practical, real-world language with an emphasis on oral communication.

Cost of the class, with Carmen Stark the instructor, is $60.

Pediatric advanced life support renewal course to be held by Northeast Community College

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two pediatric advanced life support renewal courses in September.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Renewal will be offered twice. The first option (HLTH 5515/18F & CRN #60136) will meet on Wednesday, September 19, and the second option (HLTH 5515/18F & CRN #60137) will be held Thursday, September 27. Both sessions will meet from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Room at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 West Norfolk Avenue in Norfolk.

This class is open to those who have completed the PALS Provider course within the last two years and hold a current Basic Life Support card. It provides a review of course material and re-verification of skills and knowledge.

Pre-course requirements include: review of the manual, review of information on student CD and completion of the PALS pre-course self-assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring it to class, along with a current Basic Life Support CPR card.

Cost is $80.

WEST POINT – A class on hand embroidery will be offered soon at Northeast Community College in West Point.

Hand Embroidery (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #60308) meets Monday, September 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Creative Notions, 107 N. Main Street, in West Point.

In this hands-on introductory class, Instructor Connie Nebuda will walk participants through embroidery basics, from choosing fabrics and floss, to hooping up and crafting ten stitches. Embroidery can be used in a number of different ways, including hand towels, baby quilts, quilt blocks and more.

Participants are asked to contact Nebuda at (402) 372-2004 to obtain the supply list.

Cost of the class is $20.
