Oakland-Craig gets new weightroom equipment; new scoreboards to come

Oakland-Craig has upgraded and redone their weightroom. Activities Director Dallas Sweet.

“It’s great. Gives us more space. A lot safer workout environment for our kids just because some of the older equipment, just the dynamic of it, the way of thinking in the late 70’s early 80’s is a little bit different now. So the setup of it. We have all new dynamic double racks from Nova Fitness based out of Omaha.”

Sweet says kids were able to use the new equipment for the first time on Wednesday of last week.

The school opted to keep some of the old equipment.

“We have 10 lifting stations in these new double racks. We still are utilizing just a couple pieces of our equipment we already had such as our hammer press, our dumbbells, things like that. It really made it so that we’d have more stations where kids can work out, safer environment, and our kids are really fired up and enjoying it.”

The weightroom is used by community members as well, according to Sweet.

The project was funded in part by a Nielsen Foundation Grant.

“We already had a good chunk of change set aside and stuff and we had been pricing the weightroom equipment, and we were looking around, and one of our assistant football coaches, Andy Rennerfeldt, and I were talking one day, and he said let’s look at a Nielsen Foundation Grant. And so I did the paperwork on a Nielsen Foundation Grant, and this basically goes back too. it’s not just weightroom. As of about October 4th, we don’t have a date locked in yet for sure, but we’re thinking October 4th we will have new scoreboards installed in the gym also.”

Sweet says the total cost of the project is just over $40,000 with $6,000 of that donated by the Booster Club. OC Club contributed as well.
