Person of interest says he’s accountable for Sydney Loofe’s death

A person of interest in the disappearance of Lincoln woman Sydney Loofe has claimed responsibility in a phone call to a reporter from federal prison on Wednesday night, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

51-year-old Aubrey Trail said he was accountable for Loofe’s death, but that the other person of interest, 23 year old Bailey Boswell,  had nothing to do with it.

Loofe’s body and evidence that a crime was involved in her death were found in southeast Nebraska’s Clay County in December.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said investigators directed officers to where they found the body.

Bliemeister said there was evidence of foul play in the woman’s death, but he wouldn’t provide any specifics.

Aubrey Trail and Boswell had reported online that they had contact with Loofe.

Bliemeister said Trail and Boswell are considered people of interest in Loofe’s disappearance and were arrested on unrelated warrants. Their social media comments led investigators to believe they were the last people with Loofe before she disappeared.

Neither has been charged with any crime related to the case.

Family and friends have said Loofe went on a date Nov. 15 with someone she met online. She was last seen in Wilber, 40 miles southwest of Lincoln, police have said.
