Phone Scams reported in Nebraska

West Point, NE – Cuming County Public Power District has been notified of several phone scams going on around Nebraska.

Customers are receiving phone calls from local phone numbers (same area code & prefix) where the caller is telling the customer that they had a new meter reading and that the customer had been overbilled for the last 5 months. The caller asks the customer for their mailing address so that they can mail him a refund check.

Another situation: Customers were called at noon (restaurant type businesses) and their caller ID comes up as a local call and the caller threatened to disconnect their power unless they put money on a green dot card.

A third scam: A police station in central Nebraska has received many calls regarding the power district or city utilities calling people and requesting cash payments or customers will face an immediate disconnect of their power.

These are all scams! Please make the public aware and let them know that these calls are coming through as local numbers.

We want to remind everyone to not give any information over the phone. If you have a question regarding a problem with your bill, please contact CCPPD at 402-372-2463 or toll free 877-572-2463 or your local utility.
