(Updated With Audio) Pilger Board Dismisses Village Clerk

The Pilger Village Attorney, Tom Donner,  has  released the following statement following a meeting of the Pilger Board of Trustees on February 11th:

 

“A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Pilger, Nebraska, was held on February 11, 2019.  The Village Board went into closed session to prevent the needless injury to the  reputation of an individual regarding the investigation into Village expenditures.  After reconvening in regular session, the Board of Trustees approved a motion to dismiss Kimberly Neiman as Village Clerk of the Village of Pilger effective February 28, 2019, and, pending such dismissal, to suspend Kimberly Neiman without pay pending the discharge because the Board determined that immediate separation is required.

 

 

 

The board further acted to direct that a written statement of the reasons for the discharge be provided to the employee.  The village Board of Trustees had previously initiated an investigation of certain prior expenditures as a result of information initially provided as part of the Village audit.  The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Stanton County Sheriff’s office, the Nebraska State Patrol, and other agencies. The Village Board of Trustees is assisting in and fully cooperating with the investigation.”

 

 

 

Neiman was once hailed as a hero in Pilger for her work in helping the community recover from twin tornadoes which destroyed most of the village in 2014.  She has served as Village clerk for 20 years.  In that time, she has received numerous awards including Nebraska Outstanding Public Administrator of the Year in 2015 and Outstanding Village Clerk in 2007.
