Bond has been set at 10% of $1 Million for one of two people arrested in two armed robberies and a stolen pickup in Cozad over the weekend. Twenty-seven-year-old Joseph Pittman was arraigned in Dawson County Court Wednesday morning on two counts of robbery, two counts of Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. Pittman was arrested following a Lexington traffic stop Tuesday morning along with 25-year-old Jewel Ramirez who was also arrested as a co-conspirator in the investigation. Jail records indicate they both listed their addresses as Cozad. Two armed robberies took place, one in a residence, the other in a motel room early Sunday morning. A pickup was also stolen from a repair shop but, has since been recovered. Cozad Police Sgt. John Peden says one other suspect is still being sought in the investigation. Pittman was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 7, 2016 at 8:30am and a public defender was appointed to represent him.

Around 12:34am Sunday, the Cozad Police Department received a call alleging and armed robbery occurred at their residence. According to a court affidavit, three masked subjects had forcibly entered the home wearing masks and brandishing a handgun, pointing it at two people. The suspects fled the home after taking a coin purse with a financial card, social security card and identification.

Around 2:14am Sunday, officers were called to the Circle S Motel where a male witness said he and another male were approached by two subjects at the nearby Casey’s General Store. The subjects then forcibly entered their motel room, brandished a handgun, demanded money and took their credit cards. One of the subjects took the credit card back to Casey’s General Store and acquired around $100 cash from it. The subject then returned to the motel room where they also took the victim’s passports and an additional $150 in Canadian currency.

The affidavit further states that on Sunday evening, a pickup was stolen from a repair shop along with several items from another motor vehicle. That property, along with the pickup, was recovered in Kearney.
