The Cuming and Burt County public power boards held a public meeting this morning at the Nielsen Center in West Point and took comments from residents on a proposed merger. Just over a couple dozen of people turned out.
CCPPD General Manager Chet McWhorter gave information from a report from the National Rural Utilities Cooperatives Finance Corp. that showed a merger has merit. Results of that study were also presented in Oakland when the two boards met April 30th.
Several members of the public voiced opposition to the merger at today’s meeting. After taking testimony the board went into executive session.
They then voted to continue conversations about the possible merger. A memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed by Burt County on June 7th, and Cuming County on June 13th.
