Review committee to look at WNCC program efficiency, effectiveness

Review committee to look at WNCC program efficiency, effectiveness

A review committee will be going through Western Nebraska Community College programs, examining the efficiency and effectiveness of college courses and services.

Formation of the committee was approved by the Board of Governors earlier this month at the request of WNCC President Dr. Todd Holcomb.  He tells KNEB News that once selected, the panel will go through WNCC offerings faculty member by faculty member, “looking at their load of classes and students, and the courses that they’re teaching to make sure we have a good match between the faculty numbers and student numbers.”

However, Holcomb says the work of the review committee does not mean there will be a reduction in force of any specific program in the near future.  “A lot of times, what we do is, that if we put a program on reduction in force review, then it gives them a year or two to get their program numbers up, to make changes, to do outreach to the high schools and the community, to build up their numbers,” says Holcomb. ” So, many times we do not eliminate a program immediately, it may take two years or three years to get that done.”

Holcomb says the administration wants to make sure the college is meeting the needs of constituents and being good shepherds of the taxpayer dollar.
