Ricketts calls Obamacare “utter failure”, defends legislative endorsements

Governor Pete Ricketts Monday called the Affordable Care Act “an utter failure” because of the lack of competition and double digit premium increases facing Nebraskans in the federal exchange.

During his monthly call-in show, Ricketts took calls from two Nebraska residents who have Obamacare that are looking at nearly 50% hikes in health insurance premiums next year. Ricketts says the Affordable Care Act has not come close to accomplishing what it promised.

Ricketts suggested a repeal of Obamacare and replacement legislation that would provide more competition so all Americans have better choices and more affordability in their health insurance options.

Ricketts also said he has the constitutional right to endorse candidates in state legislative races. Ricketts made the comment as he was challenged by a caller on his monthly radio show about the constitutionality of his endorsements and whether they are blatant efforts to remove lawmakers that have disagreed with him on key issues.

Ricketts says he looks for candidates whose views represent those of their district’s constituents and are willing to work hard and knock on doors.  Ricketts never directly answered whether the endorsements are targeted to remove certain senators from office.
