New Medicare Cards Issued
Starting in April, new Medicare cards will be mailed to beneficiaries. State and federal
regulators are aware of potential scams occurring in connection with the issuance of the new
cards. There are reports of con artists calling beneficiaries pretending to be from Medicare
and asking for payment for the card or asking for personal information in order to obtain the

Medicare will not call you to ask for payment for the new Medicare card, or to
request personal information.
Be aware that insurance agents are not permitted to use the issuance of a new card as a
reason to schedule a visit to sell insurance. Remember, agents are prohibited from coming to
your home uninvited to sell or endorse any Medicare-related product. They cannot ask for
your personal information, like your Medicare number, social security number, bank account or
credit card numbers, over the phone. If you believe you have been a target of a Medicare
