A 47-year-old Scotts Bluff County man was sentenced to prison this morning following his arrest at a Lake Minatare home last December

David Barraza was sentenced to 8 to 10 years in prison this morning by District Judge Andrea Miller on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine (28 to 139 grams) and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (1st Offense).

The sentences will run concurrently, and Barraza was given credit for 150 days already served. County Attorney Dave Eubanks says that the drug conviction carries a mandatory minimum 5 year prison sentence, so without losing any good time, he will spend at least six-and-a-half years in prison.

Barraza was arrested on December 13th after a SWAT Team raided the home and found a large amount of methamphetamine and a stolen shotgun.

In March, David Barraza pleaded guilty to the two charges- one being a Class 1C Felony and the other a Class 1D Felony. In exchange for the guilty pleas, eight gun and weapons charges were dismissed in that case. Additionally, charges in his companion case were dismissed with prejudice due to the plea agreement.
