A Scottsbluff man convicted of breaking into several storage units and a home this year was sentenced Thursday to a total of 3-9 years in prison .

36 year old Nicholas Anaya and another Scottsbluff man were arrested this spring for the burglaries of over two dozen storage units in the North Platte Valley over the first three months of this year. Anaya eventually entered a plea agreement where he was convicted on four of the storage unit burglaries and a separate home burglary.

Deputy County Attorney Cory Rothrock told the court the burglaries were tied to Anaya’s need to gain money for his drug habit. District judge Leo Dobrovolny sentenced Anaya to prison time on each of the five burglary counts, with the sentences for the storage unit break-ins to be served simultaneously.

The other person involved in the storage unit burglaries, 29 year old Miguel Alvarez, had been sentenced previously to probation after pleading to two of the break-ins in an agreement with the prosecution.
