There will be familiar faces- but at new places- next year within multiple Scottsbluff Public School buildings.
With a single retirement, four current SPS administrators will be leading a new school starting this fall.
Bluffs Middle School Principal Bert Wright had expressed a desire to return to his elementary school roots. With the retirement of longtime Westmoor Principal Charlotte Browning, Wright will replace her in the fall. Wright has a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, a Bachelor of Science in elementary education K-8 from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Master of Science in educational administration K-8 from Chadron State College.
The BMS vacancy presents a new career challenge for current Roosevelt Principal Jana Mason, who had said she had an interest in moving to the middle school level if an opportunity arose. With Bert Wright moving across town, Jana Mason will be principal at Bluffs Middle School next year. Mason received a Bachelor’s Degree in social work from the University of Wyoming, Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Chadron State College, a Master’s in administration from Chadron State and a K-12 superintendent specialist degree from University of Nebraska at Kearney.
With Jana Mason’s move, Frances Burkhalter, now in her fifth year in a split position as Principal of Lake Minatare and the Bear Cub Preschool expressed an interest in moving to Roosevelt to build on her experiences at Sandoz Elementary School in Lexington where her skills and passions would be a great match. Frances Burkhalter will be moving to Roosevelt as principal next year. Burkhalter has a M.A. in elementary education with an emphasis on reading from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and an M.A. in elementary administration also from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Finally, Jeremy Behnke, assistant principal at Westmoor will assume the role of Principal at Lake Minatare as well as oversight of the District’s new Science standards adoption and the elementary After School Programs. Behnke has a M.A. in arts and education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and taught for 11 years prior to being assistant principal at Westmoor.
