Lexington, Neb. — The National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct its 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this Saturday, May 12  and local mail carriers are eager to be involved in the event.

Lexington letter carrier Luann  McBride says it’s a great way to help your local community because all food contributions go to the local food pantry.

McBride says simply leave a strong bag with non-perishable, non-expired food  by your mailbox this Saturday.  McBride says if you don’t  know when your letter carrier comes by,  have it out by 8:30 a.m.  Your letter carrier will pick up your contribution and see that it gets delivered to the local food pantry.

McBride is passionate about the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive:

McBride gives some suggestions on the best items to donate:

“Things like cereals, pastas, pasta sauces, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats like tuna, turkey, chicken…soups, peanut butter, beans — canned or dried, crackers, granola bars…but nothing frozen…those would all be good items.”

McBride says there’s also a container at the Lexington Post Office where donations can be dropped off through Monday.
