Two males were arrested on weapons charges following a CODE Drug Task Force operation in Cozad Monday afternoon. Following correspondence on social media, an undercover officer made contact with a passenger of a vehicle in a parking lot. The passenger allegedly sold 17.5 grams of marijuana to the undercover officer for $800. During the transaction, the undercover officer observed a handgun in plain view on the passenger seat.

The suspect vehicle was later stopped on Interstate 80 for a suspected speeding violation. Two firearms were located in the vehicle, one of them confirmed to have been stolen. The occupants, 18-year-old Jesus Garcia of Kearney and a 16-year-old Lincoln boy, were arrested. Both were arraigned in Dawson County Court on three felony charges of Possession of a Firearm during a Drug Violation, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Bond for both of them were set at 10% of $50,000. The next hearing in both cases was set for December 27, 2019 at 8:30am.
