A veteran of the newspaper industry has been selected to take over the reins of newspapers in Scottsbluff, Gering and Hemingford.

BH Media Midwest Group Vice President Shon Barenklau has announced that Star-Herald General Manager Roger Tollefson is the new publisher of that paper, the Courier and the Ledger.

Tollefson has spent his entire career, 37 years, in the newspaper business, and has been at the Star-Herald since 1991. Tollefson tells KNEB News one of his goals in taking the position will be to recognize and cultivate leaders among the staff.

“I believe you’re only as good as the people you have around you,” says Tollefson, “So putting forth the talent in place, recognizing the leaders you have around you and allowing them to have say in the organization and the steps. I also like to follow leadership by example, so I try to set the example as best I can.”

Tollefson takes over from Greg Awtry, whose last day as publisher was this past Monday.
