A Torrington woman is facing felony drug charges following a raid of her home Wednesday morning by local law enforcement and federal authorities.

Police Chief Tim Hurd tells KNEB News Melody Dawn Boalch was taken into custody following a search of her home in the 1600 block of F Street at 11:45 a.m., which uncovered more than 2,000 100mg tablets of tapentadol, a pain-killing narcotic, as well as oxycodone and fentanyl.

Hurd says local officers had the assistance from the Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Enforcement, the U.S. Postal Service and Drug Enforcement Administration.

He says the issue came to light when U.S. Customs at JFK International Airport had intercepted a package from India believed to contain tapentadol.

Hurd says Boalch was lodged into the Goshen County Jail on felony charges of possession of tapentadol, as well as possession of tapentadol with intent to deliver and misdemeanor child endangerment.

The chief thanked the federal agencies for their assistance, saying it was a perfect example of how local and federal agencies can cooperate to make communities better.

Hurd says investigation into the case is continuing.
