Two injured in Banner County Missile Alert Facility incident

Two injured in Banner County Missile Alert Facility incident

Two active duty military members were transported to Regional West in Scottsbluff Tuesday afternoon after an incident occurred at an Air Force Missile Alert Facility outside of Harrisburg in Banner County.

According to the Air Force’s 90th Missile Wing, the Banner County and Gering Fire Departments responded to an incident at around 3:40 Tuesday afternoon and determined the situation was a result of the overheating of a piece of electrical equipment that produced smoke, prompting personnel on site to evacuate.

The two military members were transported for treatment of minor smoke inhalation.

90th Missile Wing Commander Col. Matthew Dillow said the public was never in danger and the the safety of the Minuteman system was never in doubt.

Dillow thanked the outstanding local community first responders for providing such rapid support. He said their professionalism and swift response were key to the safe resolution of the incident.
