Western, northern Nebraska get snow well before winter

Parts of western and northern Nebraska got a taste of winter on Thursday. The National Weather Service says snow fell from Alliance to Valentine with many areas picking up two inches in the afternoon and more. A freeze warning was posted overnight for much of the area. 5 inches of snow was reported 33 miles south of Merriman in Cherry county, 4 inches was reported at Mullen in Hooker county and 3 inches of snow was reported 1 mile south of Valentine in Cherry county and at Ainsworth in Brown county.
