Wind Turbine Zoning Change Approved By Cuming County Planning Commission

Wind Turbine Zoning Change Approved By Cuming County Planning Commission

The Cuming County Planning Commission  voted 6 to  3 Monday night to approve a request from Bluestem Energy Solutions for a zoning change for a proposed wind  turbine in the county.  The commission’s recommendation now goes to the Cuming County Board for final approval.  The board will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. on May 29th.

At last night’s commission  public hearing a few nearby property owners opposed the conditional use application citing lack of communication about the project,  its appearance and possible noise and its effect on wildlife in the area.  The  board’s vote to recommend approval was 6 to 3.

The $5-million project is expected to generate $300,000 in  property taxes over the life of the project.  Cuming County Public  Power says it expects to get about 10 percent of its energy from the  turbine if approved.
