York man gets year in jail for leaving scene of fatal crash

YORK – A York man will serve time behind bars for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Fifty six year old Douglas Sandall was sentenced in York County District Court on Monday to a year in jail and also must serve post release supervision for two years for the death of 41-year-old Chad Chapman. Sandall was charged with Failure to Stop & Render Aid/Serious Injury or Death, a Class 3 Felony and plead no contest to the charge on Monday.

According to court records, the incident occurred on Aug. 19 when Sandall was driving on Road 11 coming back from checking cattle when he passed a truck parked in the road with a door open. Sandall reported that he thought he hit a gravel embankment, so he stopped to check the damage and saw the body of Chapman in the ditch. Sandall then fled the scene and went home, but later turned himself into authorities on August 21st.
