York Mayor Recalled in Special Election

York, Neb. — The Mayor of York has been recalled in a special election held Tuesday.

In unofficial results released Tuesday evening, there were 1,358 votes in favor and 915 votes against the recall of Mayor Orval Stahr.

York County Clerk Kelly Turner says canvassing of the votes will take place on Wednesday.

The ballot question read: “Shall Orval Stahr be removed from the office of mayor of the city of York, Nebraska?”

All ballots had to be mailed or dropped off to the election commission on Tuesday.

York city councilwoman Diane Wolfe called for the recall election in September of last year when she claimed the Mayor was “neglectful to York’s best interest.”

In late 2018, she gathered the 1,150 signatures required to hold the recall election.
