COLUMBUS – The Northeast Community College volleyball team, currently ranked #11 in the NJCAA Division II Top 25 poll, was swept by #8 Central Community College here Wednesday, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-22.
“Unfortunately, tonight we did not show up to play,” said Hawks Coach Amanda Schultze. “We struggled to get anything going in the first couple sets, and finally, in the third, we started playing. We saw some good things from the freshmen, and we were able to get into a rhythm and play.”
Macy Stewart recorded 11 kills for Northeast. Kelsey Shoemaker and Caitlin McLouth each put up one solo block. Peyton Roach and Shoemaker led Northeast in ace serves with two each.
Mackenzie Wecker had 14 digs, and Courtney Labenz led assists with 15.
Now 10-2, Northeast travels to Iola, KS, this weekend to play in the two-day Allen Community College Tournament. On Friday, they face Neosho County Community College at 3 p.m. and Allen Community College at 5 p.m. On Saturday, they challenge Ottawa University JV at 10 a.m. and Coffeyville Community College at 12 p.m.
